Rich Uncle Pennybags

... is now officially named Mr. Monopoly.

He first appeared on Chance and Community Chest cards, in US editions of Monopoly, in 1936. He appeared in another game, Dig, in 1940, and in 1946 he was the title character of a third Parker Bros game: Rich Uncle.

In The Monopoly Companion – a book published in 2008 by former Parker Bros executive Philip Orbanes – his full name was given as Milburn Pennybags. (Similarly, the character "In Jail" is named "Jake, the Jailbird", and the police officer on Go to Jail is "Officer Mallory".)

Uncle Pennybags is said to be modelled on the American financier J. P. Morgan (1837–1913).

According to Wikipedia, it was in 1999 that he was officially renamed Mr. Monopoly.
